Hello,

Do you have a minute to talk about saving for education? Are you familiar with 529 plans?

A 529 plan is a tax-advantaged way to save for future higher education, like college or vocational school.

The costs of going to college have been rising for years and 529 plans help families save and prepare for one of life’s biggest expenses which can include things like tuition, room and board, and computers.

If education savings is a priority for you, let’s schedule some time to talk about 529 plans.

Thank you.

2. Share the key benefits of a 529 plan.

Hello,

I recently reached out about education savings and 529 plans. I want to touch base and share some benefits in case they make sense for you and your family.

  • Earnings grow tax-deferred and qualified withdrawals are tax-free from federal taxes and may also be free from state taxes.
  • When it comes to giving a gift or planning your estate, you can contribute up to $19,000 per child annually ($38,000 if filing jointly) effective January 1, 2025.
  • You can use withdrawals at eligible institutions around the country for tuition, supplies, room and board, and qualified expenses have no annual distribution limit.
  • The owner of the 529 plan retains control of the assets and can transfer them to another beneficiary.

As you can see, there are many benefits to opening a 529 plan. Please let me know if we can discuss this further or if you have any questions.

Thank you.

3. Understanding financial impact with four calculator tools.

Hello,

I wanted to share with you four calculators you may find useful in your education journey.

  • The college savings calculator provides you with an estimate of how much you need to save for college.
  • The state tax deduction calculator provides users with their estimated net tax savings from both state and federal taxes. It also shows state specific information on beneficiaries, carry-forward provisions, and if 529 plans can be used for K-12 and/or apprenticeships.
  • The financial aid calculator allows you to input data to estimate your Student Aid Index (SAI) and assists in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
  • The student loan repayment calculator helps you calculate your estimated loan payments.

Many people find these tools helpful when trying to understand the financial impacts of sending kids to college or trade school. I hope you find them useful as well.

If it’s helpful, we can walk through these calculators together and talk about the next steps in your education plans.

Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.
